Sales Cloud - Role of SI

Salesforce.com has a established partner network who perform the consulting services for the SaaS based implementations. While the the concept of SAP cloud is picking up and resonating with the clients, it is still not clear what services will be performed by SAP/Channel Partners/VARs in a typical cloud implementation.

 

How is SAP projecting the SI role in these implementations. Having led and managed many SAP CRM projects at IBM and also involved in many pre-sales activities it is very important for us to understand the role of SI.

 

Going through some of the documentation, it says any client specific extensions or enhancement requests have to be submitted to SAP. I undestand SAP wants to shield the product during the initial stages until it reaches a maturity state. But what is the long term vision as it may not be practical for the SaaS provider to be doing this all the time. Is SAP planning to adapt the Salesforce.com partner services model. Appreicate your input.
